The Future Of Mountain Village
Mountain Village began over 20-years ago as a part of the Telluride Ski Resort. Many things were done well in the development of Mountain Villiage, but with growing residential and small business elements, a new vision is being sought. To this end, a Mountain Village Comprehensive Community Plan Task Force has been formed and is conducting a series of public meetings. These efforts will surely result in positive additions to Mountain Village.

Telluride Record Snowfall
Last December, the Telluride Ski Resort proudly announced a record monthly snowfall of 93-inches. This December so far, snowfall exceeds 100-inches setting a new record since measurements were recorded beginning in the early 1970's. Seventy-seven inches have fallen in the Town of Telluride which is approximately 3-times the average December snowfall.

Future Ski Area Expansion
The Telluride Ski Resort has proposed a snow study in the Bear Creek location as a possible future expansion area for the ski resort. The Forest Service may freely grant Telski's request under their current permit without public comment. Telski asked the Forest Service to review all comments received from the public regardless. Public comments are running 2-1 against the study for the possible Bear Creek expansion.

Federal Land Exchange
Air travel directly to Telluride is limited by the length of the Telluride Airport runway. The airport is land-locked by Federal lands. Through complicated negotiations involving the Forest Service, the Telluride Airport Authority , private landowners and the Trust for Public Lands, an agreement has been reached granting the airport authority federal land at the end of the current runway allowing for expansion. The cooperation so impressed the Federal Government that the agreement was recognized with the 2007 Cheif's National Land Exchange Award from the United States Forest Service.

All Lifts To Open Tomorrow
With the most recent series of snow falls, all lifts at the Telluride Ski resort are set to open tomorrow. The new Revelation Bowl has a different kind of problem -- too much snow (and winds) are preventing it from opening. The ski patrol is working hard to remedy this problem.

Telluride Public Library Goes Solar
The Wilkinson Public Library's board has voted to approve $100,000 to cover approximately one-half of its roof with solar panels. Not only will unused electricity be sold back into the electircal grid, the project will serve as an educational tool for the community. It is estimated that 9-barrels of crude oil will not be consumed and 19-tons of carbon dioxide will not be generated annually. Nice example to set for the community.
