Capella Luxury Hotel Opens
Ten-years and $200,000,000 later, the Capella luxury hotel has opened. Although Capella has other locations, this is their first U.S. hotel. Other luxury hotel projects have competed with the Capella, but only the Capella has crossed the finish line. In the end, no one will disagree with the contention that the Capella is Telluride's most luxurious hotel. Only time will decide.

Telluride's Free Box
"Reuseable but unsuitable" defines the new ordinance applying to the Telluride Free Box. Refrigerators that are in working order are reuseable but unsuitable for the Free Box. Although vague the new rule is is easy to comprehend. There are many that want the Free Box moved or even eliminated to avoid the "dumping" of large items at the free box as unsightly. Eliminating the Free Box would be eliminating Telluride folklore. Reasonable people will find a compromise.

Man's Best Friend
To say that Telluride is a dog-friendly place goes without argument. The concern is perhaps too friendly. The number-one concern is dog waste attributed to dogs on-the-loose or owners shierking their responsibilities. A dog ordainance task force has identified several revisions to tighten the laws governing dogs and their owners. Along with these proposed new laws will come increased fines. Loving your dog means being responsible.

Telluride's Valley Floor
Since acquiring the Valley Floor, planning has begun. A controversy arose the other day when initial guidelines prohibited the use of the Valley Floor by dogs. While this is not a final decision, it is in response to environmental concerns of free-roaming dogs and their environmental impact. Perhaps a designated area can be set-aside for dog-lovers and their dogs.

Ski Resort Rankings
The Conde Nast Traveler magazine ranked the Telluride Ski Resort as the #2 ski resort in all of North America -- Canada's Whistler being #1. In other ski magazine polls, Telluride is ranked #4 by Skiing magazine and #10 in Ski magazine.
